Architected a multi-threaded Rust Tokio worker pool that leverages local GPU encoders (Apple VideoToolbox, NVIDIA NVENC, and Intel QuickSync) for blistering fast batch exports.
Technical Pipeline & Rust Execution
The application architecture pairs a high-polish React frontend with a high-throughput Rust media daemon:
- Rust Sidecar Process Control: FFmpeg is executed as an isolated background child process managed by Rust Tokio asynchronous runtimes, preventing the application UI from freezing during intense video rendering.
- Hardware-Accelerated Transcoding: Automatically detects host GPU hardware (Apple VideoToolbox on M1/M2/M3/M4 Macs, NVENC on Windows NVIDIA, QuickSync on Intel) for 4x–8x faster rendering than CPU-only encoding.
- Accurate Keyframe Seeking: Custom FFmpeg seek arguments avoid black frames or desynchronized audio tracks when splitting long files at 60-second intervals.
- Real-Time Telemetry: Parses stdout frame counts and progress percentages, rendering a smooth progress bar and time-to-completion countdown in the React interface.
